MOVIES: I blame society.

Well we knew it was coming but it still hurts. Twilight stayed on top of the box office this weekend pulling in $62.3 million over the 5 day Thanksgiving break. This brings its total to an extremely disheartening $221.3 million....damn. The Muppets took up second place with a nice five day total of $42 million. I'm glad The Muppets still did well even though I would have lost my mind if they somehow managed to defeat Twilight. Third place went to Happy Feet Two which took in $18.3 million followed by Arthur Christmas which pulled $16.9 million over the 5 days. Rounding out the top 5 was Hugo, which has gotten incredible reviews, and managed to take in $15.3 million. There's a lot of good movies in theaters right now with The Muppets, Arthur Christmas and Hugo all scoring over 90% on Rotten Tomatoes! It's a testament to how dumb we are that Twilight still dominates the competition and sits with a horrendous 27% on the Tomato Meter. So what did you all see this weekend?

Ugh.

MOVIES: A call to arms.

This weekend will be the second weekend for Breaking Dawn in theaters. Anyone in their right mind would predict it to come out on top of the box office once again. But today I say we try to win one for sane people everywhere. On Wednesday The Muppets return to theaters after a 12 year hiatus. This is Jason Segel's passion project. He put the Dracula puppet show in Forgetting Sarah Marshall (which he wrote) to show that he was capable of bringing The Muppets back to life. A few years later he got the green light, signed Amy Adams, and got to work. Now his dream has been realized and it sounds like it will be glorious. Currently sitting at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 22 reviews, it seems that the film is not just for those who remember The Muppets from their glory days. Let's be honest, the best times for The Muppets were in the 80's, before some of us were even around. I'm not pretending to be a huge Muppets fan who has been longing for them to return to the silver screen over the past decade, but I'm still extremely eager to see them! Reviewers say that adults and children alike will find something to love about The Muppets and, say what you will, but I believe these silly puppets have a hell of a lot more substance than Twilight. So I urge you, fellow nerds; while this weekend will be great for seeing families, watching football and consuming absolutely unhealthy amounts of food, it will also be good for seeing The Muppets. So get out there, buy a ticket, and let's knock Twilight out of the number one spot! Manha-manha!

MOVIES: Life sucks.

This is the most painful article I've ever had to write but alas, I post the box office results every weekend. Twilight just snuck in to first place with the fifth best opening weekend in cinematic history. $139.5 million worth of girls paid to see less than mediocre acting and less than mediocre special effects which are apparently offset by abs and a story about a girl who has some serious relationship issues. It was nearly usurped by Happy Feet Two which I realized existed while looking up the box office results for this weekend. Happy Feet grabbed $22 million putting it just $117.5 million behind Twilight. Third place went to Immortals which grabbed roughly $12.3 million and fourth place saw the abysmal Jack and Jill which stole $12 million from idiots across the nation. Puss in Boots hung on to stay in the top 5 for probably the last weekend with almost $11 million. But there remains good news for the future!!!

Play the music and light the lights because on Wednesday The Muppets hits theaters! Although still with limited reviews it currently sits with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and was given 4.5/5 stars from IGN! That is definitely what I'll be seeing over the Thanksgiving break. What about everyone else?

MOVIES: Oh man The Muppets looks awesome.

The Muppets movie campaign that has produced a slew of trailers that say nothing about the actual Muppets movie but focus on making parodies of whatever trailers happen to be popular at the time has been awesome. Honestly I wasn't really excited for the movie until I started seeing these trailers and got the feeling that this movie is going to be so brilliantly silly that it will in fact be awesome. The last trailer was recently released and it features parodies of Paranormal Activity, Twilight, and even the whole campaign for The Muppets movie. I love that Jason Segel has finally gotten his chance to make a Muppets movie and I'm rooting for this movie big time once it hits theaters.
