VIDEO GAMES: Is Nintendo doing all the work?

Remember when the Wii came out? When Nintendo had the idea to heavily integrate motion capture into their gaming? It didn't work quite as well as we had all hoped, but Nintendo took a risk. A few years later, both Microsoft and Sony followed that risk after they had learned what did and didn't work for the Wii. With the Kinect and Playstation Move, Nintendo's top 2 competitors developed their own iterations of the concept that the Wii used. Today we have another rumor regarding the next gen Xbox which again suggests Nintendo paving the way. IGN has posted an article discussing rumors that the next Xbox will use touch screen controllers. Sound familiar? The Wii U will come out later this year with touch screen controllers. Obviously there's not meat to musings this early in the game, but I find it odd that Nintendo gets so much flack for having weaker graphics and such as they are consistently the only company willing to take risks that will actually push gaming forward. So yes, the Wii U will not look as nice as the next gen Xbox or PS4, but it's likely that both systems will borrow heavily from what does and doesn't work for Nintendo's next risk.

VIDEO GAMES: More Xbox 720 rumors!

So yesterday I posted an article that revealed some newfound rumors about the "Xbox 720." They said the system would be six times more powerful than current generation and would be set for a late 2013 release. Well this morning more rumors have surfaced. Now they're saying the system will support blu-ray discs, might not support used games and will come with the next version of Kinect pre-installed. The blu-ray would be nice but I'm not sure how many people purchase the PS3 for that reason specifically. I'm not sure how they would implement the idea of the system not playing used games but if they could find a way to do it I'm totally on board. I hate to see developers getting shortchanged when people opt out of paying more than $10 for some truly great games. Now as far as shipping with the next iteration of Kinect? It's insane how little I could possibly care about that. So whether or not these rumors have any truth to them will be told in time. We shall see.

VIDEO GAMES: The next generation of consoles is here!

...Is what I will be saying in Fall of 2013. IGN has posted an article claiming that sources close to the development of the "Xbox 720" have confirmed that the system is slated to ship to retailers in late October or early November of next year. It also states that the system will be roughly "six times" as powerful as the Xbox 360 with the equivalent of a Radeon HD 6670 GPU. This makes it compatible with DirectX11, multi-display output, 3D and 1080p. Basically it means the thing will be super powerful and the games will look incredible right out of the gate. If there is any truth to the rumor then I'm very excited by the news. I still feel like my 360 has a lot of life in it and we are just now reaching the peak of the quality of games we will see on the system. A late 2013 release gives us plenty of time to wrap up our relationships with our current generation of consoles. What do you think? Are you ready for the next generation of gaming?

VIDEO GAMES: 2013...that is the year.

That is the year when we will most likely see the next generation XBOX console. According to everyone on the internet today, multiple sources have revealed that the next gen system will be revealed at E3 in 2013 for a late 2013 release. Obviously this is all speculation but we'll keep our ears to the pavement for any more rumors or especially confirmation from Microsoft on the issue.
