MOVIES: Box office blues.

Saturday's are generally slow news days but there is something somewhat interesting that has come out of the blue. As you know, this weekend saw the opening of Cowboys and Aliens and Crazy Stupid Love in theaters. Early projections had Cowboys running away with the box office dominance this weekend...but it looks like that may not be the case. Surprisingly the freaking Smurfs topped Cowboys and Aliens at the box office on Friday! Although Cowboys was expected to end at around the $50 million mark it looks like it may get nowhere close to that, whereas The Smurfs is looking to end up at around $37 million by the end of the weekend. The numbers were close with Smurfs pulling in $13.3 million and Cowboys pulling $13 million but that is heavy under-producing for Cowboys while Smurfs is overachieving. Personally I have no intentions of ever seeing The Smurfs and I was on the fence about Cowboys. But after the poor reviews and stunningly low box office numbers I think it's safe to say I'll wait for Cowboys to be on Netflix or Redbox.
