VIDEO GAMES: Absolutely Unreal!

Well the Kickstarter campaign for Double Fine Adventure's point and click adventure game has finally come to a close. If you don't remember, the company set out to get $400,000 by today in order to start work on their new game. The final total? AN ASTONISHING $3,335,265 FROM 87,138 BACKERS! This is absolutely insane! To see so much support for a game to be developed, obviously setting a Kickstarter record is pretty damn awesome. Now it will be interesting to see what the final product ends up looking like as Double Fine likely has more money than they know what to do with now!

VIDEO GAMES: Nerds: 1 Everything Else: 0

I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with the Kickstarter organization. What it does is allows entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas and gather support in the form of funding from anyone willing to donate. The idea is to get enough people excited about your product that they will actually donate enough for you to make it. Well nerds have stepped up big time and done something pretty amazing. Double Fine Adventure wants to make an old school point and click adventure game that will harken back to classic gaming. They decided to get their funds through Kickstarter and saying they've found success would be a deathly understatement. The studio's goal was to raise $400,000 by March 13th...they met that goal in 8 hours. Not only did they reach $400,000 in 8 hours, but they currently sit at $740,000 from over 18,000 "backers." That is absolutely insane and this morning, via their Twitter, Kickstarter confirmed that it's a record for fundraising. Seriously this is so damn awesome I'll end up buying the game just to see what comes from this awesome story. It's nice to see that there's still such a deep passion for old-school gaming out there.

UPDATE: Donations have broken $1 million! Holy crap.
