MOVIES: Ross out.

I loved The Hunger Games. As a fan of the book, I thought they did an excellent job translating the story to the big screen. A big part of what made the movie work for me was Gary Ross' direction. Unfortunately, Ross will not be returning to the helm for Catching Fire, the second entry in The Hunger Games trilogy. Apparently it came down to a combination of money and the fact that Ross felt he had already established himself as a successful filmmaker. He claimed to have enjoyed the first book the most (of course) and wants to work on a screenplay that he has already written. I'm pretty sad about Ross stepping down from the franchise as I had the feeling that it was in capable hands with him calling the shots. It will be interesting to see who they find to replace Ross for Catching Fire and, if the new director will try to keep the style as close to the original as possible. Catching Fire will start shooting this fall! Who would you like to see direct Catching Fire?
